During the past several years extremely corrosion-resistant positive grid materials have been developed for lead acid batteries. These alloys consist of a low calcium content, moderate tin content, and additions of silver. Despite the high corrosion resistance these materials present problems in battery manufacturing.
Silver is also used by one battery manufacturer in the USA to increase the corrosion resistance of lead–antimony alloys which are employed to prevent corrosion and leakage at the side terminals of automotive batteries. Supercapacitors have advantages in applications where a large amount of power is needed for a relatively short time, where a very high number of charge/discharge cycles or a longer lifetime is required. Typical applications range from milliamp currents or milliwatts of power for up to a few minutes to several amps current or several hundred kilowatts power for much shorter periods.
